The Capital Region Airport Commission is searching for a dynamic, emotionally intelligent, forward- thinking and diversity-inclusive Chief Operating Officer for the Richmond International Airport (RIC). Under the direction of the President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Operating Officer is responsible for managing the daily operations of the airport by planning, developing, directing, and overseeing the operational personnel and divisions including Capital Development, Maintenance, and Operations & Security. Candidates should have a proven track record of leadership of airport capital development, airport operations, airport security, implementing airport facility development and rehabilitation projects, maintenance and facility management including asset management, airside and landside operations, communications, airport security, aircraft rescue firefighting and law enforcement on airports.
This position will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies across the organization. You will need to exercise independent judgment and discretion in determining the optimal strategy and resource management, providing support to divisional areas as well as all airport staff and customers in the most efficient manner possible.
The Chief Operating Officer prepares, presents, and administers a budget for the divisional areas of responsibility, directs and supervises the preparation and recommendation of both an airport master plan and an airport capital improvement plan, and oversees the maintenance and development of operational, security and emergency plans for the airport. The successful candidate will manage a holistic facility management and asset program, supervise staff, develop and implement plans, and realign resource allocation within the organization for optimal efficiency and resiliency. This position will also be tasked with ensuring compliance of facilities, infrastructure and maintenance, airfield, security and communications operations with local, state, and federal laws, regulations and sound business practices.
Education & Experience
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in aviation or airport management, business administration, planning, engineering, public administration, public safety or a closely related field. The candidates should have ten (10) plus years of progressively responsible airport leadership experience. At least three to five (3-5) years of the experience must include the supervision of staff. Certifications in areas relative to the position (A.A.E., IAP, C.M., P.E., AICP, etc.) are preferred.
